Birmingham Conservation Trust is a charity that seeks to rescue historic buildings at risk in Birmingham. It works to secure the long term future of these buildings by creating imaginative new uses and undertaking sensitive repairs, helping to create attractive places to live and work.

Detailed Information

  • Past Projects:

    19th century back-to-backs, (pictured above), at Hurst Street/Inge Street, Birmingham, opened 2004 (managed by the National Trust).

    Early 19th century townhouses at 69 and 70 Great Hampton Street in the Jewellery Quarter restored for use by small businesses.

    The Brewmaster's House - a fine Georgian house between the ICC and Brindley Place.

    Current Project News:

    Newman Brothers Coffin Works - Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham,
    an extraordinary atmospheric time capsule (featured on Restoration)

  • building refurbishment planned for 2009 - 2010.

  • to be opened to the public and parts converted to modern workspace

  • all stock and records now in storage while development work takes place

  •  
      In addition to its projects, the Trust:
  • undertakes feasibility studies on suitable buildings
  • promotes awareness of the historic built environment
  • gives talks and exhibitions about the work of the Trust
  • helps co-ordinate the Civic Trust Heritage Open Days in Birmingham
  • seeks to maximise funding for historic buildings by submitting bids to the Heritage Lottery Fund and other grant-making bodies.
